Family anxious for news about Dubai blast victim

This content was originally posted in 7DAYS UAE website at: Family anxious for news about Dubai blast victim Relatives of a worker who was seriously injured in a warehouse explosion in Dubai are facing an anxious wait for news thousands of kilometres away in his home country. Thiru Murugan, a 36-year-old Indian expat, was one of two workers airlifted to Rashid Hospital after being badly hurt in an explosion at a warehouse in Al Quoz. Two other people also suffered lesser injuries when a gas cylinder blew up on Monday, said police. Murugan’s brother-in-law, who is in India, says his family is very worried. “We haven’t received any formal communication from the hospital or other authorities in Dubai,” Baranidar Manimaran told 7DAYS yesterday by phone from Trichy City in Tamil Nadu state. “He’s alone in Dubai and we have no one to rely on for information. All his family is here in India.” Manimaran said some workers who visited Murugan in Rashid Hospital’s main ICU told the family that the worker sustained head injuries that affected part of his brain. Manimaran says his brother-in-law came to Dubai three months ago. His wife and five-year-old daughter are staying with his parents back in India. No one from Rashid Hospital was available to discuss his condition. General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, assistant chief of Dubai Police for Criminal Investigations, said the warehouse in Al Quoz Industrial Area 12 was used to store air conditioning units and construction tools. “The tank on the warehouse’s roof collapsed on the four workers who were inside,” he said. ismail@7days.ae  Read the original story at: Family anxious for news about Dubai blast victim
