This content was originally posted in 7DAYS UAE website at: Trio threatened to kill owner of shop in Dubai Three men have been sentenced to three years in jail for stealing Dhs11.7 million worth of jewellery from a shop in Dubai. The Dubai Court of First Instance found two of the three Romanians guilty of stealing the jewellery by threatening to kill the Lebanese owner of a jewellery shop in Naif in December 2014. A third man, 57, reportedly hid the stolen items. The 57-year-old shop owner said he was in his home country in December 2014 when he received a call from an employee that one of the men came to the shop saying he wanted to buy a large amount of jewellery. According to court records, a few days later the owner said he received a call from another of the Romanians asking him to come to Paris to collect the money for the jewellery. The owner said he went with his son to meet them in a hotel in the French capital. “They locked us in the room and asked me to call the shop employee in Dubai and ask him to hand over 6.5kg of jewellery to their man in Dubai or my life and my son’s life would be in danger,” the owner said in official records. He says he told a Syrian employee in the shop to give the jewellery to the defendant and the gang let him leave. Dubai Police started tracking the man using CCTV and arrested him in Bur Dubai. “He led us to the other two suspects,” a 32-year-old Emirati police officer said. “The third one had hidden the jewellery in a plastic bag behind the washing machine.” wafa.issa@7days.ae Read the original story at: Trio threatened to kill owner of shop in Dubai
