So a while I wrote about how my former employer had failed to pay my salary for October, together with my full end of service and final settlement (‘How long can a firm delay final salary and gratuity?‘, 7DAYS, December 14). The response was all positive, report to the MOL etc. I’ve spoken to the MOL and everyone is right they will take up my case and attempt to have my money paid back to me. However, in filing a complaint as I go through the new visa process for my new found job, the MOL will put a hold on my new visa until the former employer has paid, thus preventing me from earning any money! Incidentally, and perhaps more important is, my former employer has been seen to be packing his home to leave with his family back to India. Why won’t the MOL apply via immigration a block on the employer leaving the country? The employee always suffers as the employer is given a window of opportunity to abscond. Finally, with the introduction of WPS, why hasn’t the WPS visited the company to ask why they have failed to pay? Sparedirham, UAE
