This weekend saw the launch of long-awaited Netflix UAE. The US-based media provider has established itself as the biggest online streaming service of television and movies in the world. Launching in 130 new countries, the move sent the internet into a frenzy, some pleased, but others disappointed with limited programming. Chief content officer, Ted Sarandos said: “With the internet, global distribution no longer needs to be fragmented. It means that everyone pretty much everywhere should be able to see great films or TV shows at the exact same moment. The technology is there. It’s business models that now stand in the way.” Netflix UAE is offering UAE residents a one-month free trial, here’s some of the shows you can binge-watch this week: MASTER OF NONE Follow the story of aspiring actor and comedian Dev. The 30-year-old lives in New York in this critically-acclaimed show, which also takes inspiration from creator, writer and star Aziz Ansari’s book, Modern Romance. THE UNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHMIDT From the mind of Tina Fey, this show follows the story of Kimmy, who has been rescued after living in a cult for 15 years. Kimmy’s attempts to assimilate with modern culture, and establish herself, always with a can-do attitude, make it a good laugh. MAKING A MURDERER This documentary tells the true story of Steven Avery, who has been wrongly convicted of a murder and imprisoned for 18 years. Soon after being released, he is convicted of another murder. Making A Murderer investigates the facts and evidence of the cases. JESSICA JONES Learn about the backstory of Marvel superhero Jessica Jones, who retires from ‘superheroing’ and opens a detective agency. This Netflix Original stars Krysten Ritter and is expected to be part of the Defenders universe crossover series. DAREDEVIL Netflix is riding high from Marvel character series like Daredevil, who’s a blind lawyer by day and a masked crime fighter by night.
