The woman said he took the large sum of cash – the amount was not stated in court – switched off his phone and disappeared. She told her family but not police. Several years later, she met and married her current husband and told him about the con and the rape. The couple got on with their lives until her former boyfriend suddenly showed up at her workplace earlier this year. He threatened to make up a lie, telling her husband that she had accepted money from him to be his mistress. “He also threatened to harm the woman and her family if she didn’t pay him,” the prosecutor said. It was then the husband decided to avenge the attack. Chief Justice Idris bin Mansour sentenced the husband and friend to five years each. The shooting victim was given a year in jail for blackmail.
