Dubai Court of First Instance was told that the 26-year-old Lebanese man asked the Canadian girl to take selfie with him as it was his birthday. The pupil testified that she was alone in the classroom at a private school in Dubai on October 12 when he molested her. She told prosecutors: “I was taking notes from his lesson after class and after one hour he started talking to me. He said I looked like his sister and then showed me some pictures of him with some other students, which he said were taken on his birthday.” The girl said that the teacher asked her to take a selfie with him and she agreed and stood near him for the picture. She said: “He kissed me on the cheek and touched my belly and back and took the picture with his phone. I was upset at his behaviour.” The girl said she tried to leave and went to the door when the teacher touched her stomach again. The next morning she informed the student affairs supervisor. A 47-year-old Canadian man who works with the girl’s mother told the court she was crying when he picked her up from school on the day of the incident. He said she told him that her chemistry teacher had touched her inappropriately. The friend said: “I spoke with the principal and asked to see the teacher but the principal said they fired him and requested that I did not report the matter to police. But I later went to the police station.” The teacher was questioned and pictures of several female pupils were found on his phone. During interrogation he told the police that he was only joking with the girl. The teacher denied the molestation charge. The trial was adjourned until later this month, when the suspect’s defence lawyer will speak to the court.
