My husband recently sold our car and received part cash but the bulk of it was given as guarantee cheque. The buyer was meant to meet him at the RTA three days later to change ownership and pay the outstanding amount in cash but once he had the car his phone was switched off and we were not able to contact him again. We tried to cash the cheque but it was rejected by our bank without any explanation. Somehow he was able to register the car and take it to Saudi. My husband went to the police but all they could say was “why did you take cheque, you should take cash”. He is a resident and known to the police for having done the same thing to others. Though we know we should have taken cash why will the police not do anything to retrieve the outstanding amount and or the car. We have hired a lawyer but after two months still nothing can be done.
