This content was originally posted in 7DAYS UAE website at: Man on trail for attacking Dubai Police officers A masseur who was handing out business cards to members of the public attacked two police officers when they asked if he had a licence, a court has heard. The Vietnamese man kicked and punched the two Emirati patrol officers, breaking one officer’s finger, during the confrontation. The incident took place in Bur Dubai on November 29, 2014. The man failed to show at Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday to enter a plea. Prosecutors said that the officers spotted a group of people handing out the cards and decided to carry out a spot check to see if they had permits. One testified: “We stopped the accused and the others and showed them our IDs, before asking them to come with us to the police station. Then some of them started running and I chased one of them. “I couldn’t catch him and returned to see my colleague fighting the accused on his own.” The masseur was resisting arrest and had knocked the first policeman to the ground when the second officer arrived, he testified. The officer said: “I grabbed him by the shirt but he kept resisting and then knocked me on the ground. He sat on me and broke my right finger.” The officer said he yelled in pain and his colleague managed to control the suspect and handcuff him before calling for an ambulance . The suspect has previously denied assaulting the two policemen. He claimed that he couldn’t understand what they wanted from him. He claimed he pushed them away from him but did not kick or punch them. The trial was adjourned until later next month so the defendant can be brought to court to face the two assault charges. ali.shouk@7days.ae Read the original story at: Man on trail for attacking Dubai Police officers
