Two tourists were caught trying to smuggle 1.45kg of heroin in their sandals. Abu Dhabi Police on Monday said the drugs were found stuffed inside the Asian men’s footwear. The pair, aged 24 and 44, had intended to sell it in the UAE. Colonel Sultan Sawayeh Darmaki, head of the Anti-Narcotics Department, said the men were caught in Shahama on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi city while travelling in a taxi from one of the other emirates. He said one of the men, who was holding the plastic bag with the sandals inside, threw it away as he tried to flee. They are to face prosecution, police said. ismail@7days.ae
