I travelled to Doha for a business meeting and flew out of T1. Great meeting, and all was well until we arrived back at DXB Terminal 1 and queued for passport control. The 40 desks with only 12 manned wouldn’t have been such a major issue to wait the 40 minutes but the attitude was appalling. We all witnessed immigration officers taking photos of each other and their male colleagues and showing them off, this whilst people were patiently waiting in the queues. After 45 minutes when the queues had died down to maybe 10 in each, half of the desks were abandoned leaving only 7 officers there and they were still totally disinterested in welcoming visitors to their wonderful city. Others were chatting amongst themselves prolonging the call for another passenger. I can just about handle this attitude as I’ve seen it all before but what sort of impression does this give to someone who is arriving for the first time? Before anyone says to me get an eGate card, it’s not about that, it’s about 40 available desks, (why that many if you don’t use them) the attitude of the staff and more importantly the first impressions of visitors. In total, it took me almost 90 minutes from touch down to exit the terminal and that was with hand luggage. Come on Dubai Airports, you really need to sort this out. Marco, Dubai
