Two men have been charged with assault after a heated family row went too far, a court has heard. Abu Dhabi Criminal Court was told that one of the Emiratis suffered a fractured skull during the brawl. He was taken to hospital, where he spent two weeks receiving treatment. Court documents state one of the men, who were brothers-in-law, went to the house of the other to see his son, who was staying with the other man. When he was denied access, the pair argued then fought, said prosecutors. The incident occurred in September. Both men were arrested and charged with assault. But the homeowner denies attacking his relative. He told Chief Justice Idris bin Mansour that the other man came to his house and demanded to see his son. “When I went out of the house to speak with him, I was surprised when he started arguing with me,” he said. “He also punched me in the chest and I fell to the floor.” The man told court that as he was lying on the ground, his brother-in-law hit him on the head with a stone then fled. “I had surgery at a hospital, where I spent two weeks,” said the man, adding that he suffers from headaches as a result of the attack. His lawyer requested that his client be paid Dhs25,000 temporary compensation for the injuries he suffered. The lawyer also presented pictures of stitches on his client’s head. The man also told the judge his brother-in-law had raped his sister and she became pregnant before they got married. The man denied that claim and blamed the homeowner for starting the fight. The trial was adjourned until December 29. ismail@7days.ae
