A cleaner has been sentenced to three months in jail for trying to steal Dhs200 from a co-worker before stabbing him in the shoulder. Dubai Court of First Instance was told that the 26-year-old Bangladeshi was drinking alcohol with others inside a labour camp in Al Qusais. He stopped the victim as he walked past after midnight, asking for his money, before stabbing him. Prosecutors said the attack took place on September 19, 2015. The victim, who had Dhs200 in his pocket, was chased and tried to fight back. “They were drunk and holding alcohol bottles in their hands. They chased me for 100 metres and the accused stabbed me on my left shoulder from behind with a sharp tool,” the victim said. The man yelled for help when the attackers ran away. Police arrested the suspect, who was identified by the victim in a line-up. Last month, the man denied robbery and assault but admitted drinking booze. ali.shouk@7days.ae
