Skin is a story of three young people from Syria who had to go through the Syrian conflict with all it’s complications and how it affects their lives. Story/Screenplay The story runs between two poles. One is the Syrian conflict and it’s reflection on three young people. The other is their interest in theatre and plays. The link has not been established properly throughout the movie. Cinematography Shaky camera in context is artistic, but once over used in irrelevant contexts, it becomes very disturbing. Directing Director Afraa Batous said in her welcome speech at DIFF that this movie is “a piece of her heart”. The movie was shot over a period of five years. Despite some of the astonishing moments captured in Syria and documenting real emotions and events, the unreasonable shaky camera, long shots, and absurd editing have reduced the quality. Acting In a docudrama, acting is more important than it is in a documentary. Full marks to all the actors who portrayed emotions in a very realistic manner and touched hearts. Special features The most special thing about ‘Skin’ are the scenes filmed in Aleppo and Hums. Rating 2.4 out of 5
