Abu Dhabi Criminal Court yesterday handed down the sentence to the Syrian after he was found guilty of consuming hashish and heroin. Court documents stated the man, who is in his 20s, had become addicted to drugs as a teenager and continued taking them after his father died in a road accident in the capital. He first hung out with a group of friends that used to buy alcohol as teenagers. A judge was yesterday told the man was then lured into consuming drugs by his friends and he became addicted. “At one point, he realised he was getting destroyed so he abandoned the groups and also quit the bad habits, which helped him finish his university degree,” a prosecutor said. After his graduation, he married a Syrian woman and settled down. But soon after their wedding, the man again met up with his old friends and took up smoking hashish and taking heroin, the court was told. “His wife said the man used to take friends to their home and they consumed drugs even in her presence, which was so embarrassing for her,” a prosecutor said. She talked to her husband and encouraged him to leave his friends behind and get clean, but he ignored her, the court was told. Police eventually arrested the man after they caught him high on drugs during a night out in Abu Dhabi. In court, he admitted to consuming narcotics, saying that his friends influenced him. He will be deported after serving his four-year jail sentence. ismail@7days.ae Read the original story at: Abu Dhabi millionaire’s son spent inheritance on drugs
