I have to say I’m appalled by the renaming of the Jebel Ali terminus on the Red metro line. I remember how the station names actually reflected the areas around them (like when Al Quoz actually made sense rather than ‘Noor Bank’). I remember when I was trying to get to Karama and could no longer find it on the metro map. It took me a minute to realise that it had been renamed to ‘ADCB’ and I’m a resident. Now imagine what it’s like for tourists. It’s a shame that rather than reflecting the identity of the city through the various area names, they’re turning the metro into a bunch of ads for these corporations. The London Underground station right next to Harrods is still called Knightsbridge (after the area), not ‘Harrods’. There isn’t a single Sharaf DG store anywhere around the Sharaf DG station here in Dubai. Ali Razzouk, Dubai
