The smell of burning rubber may still be lingering following last weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but the staff of Yas Marina Circuit are already gearing up to start preparing for next year’s race. While Nico Rosberg is still probably celebrating his fine finish to the season after victory in the UAE capital, Yas Marina Circuit CEO Al Tareq Al Ameri says his team will take a few day’s rest and then begin their planning for 2016. “I am only going to give the team one week off – then we will start again,” Al Ameri told 7DAYS with a smile. “We will analyse and process the whole weekend and come up with lessons learned from 2015. We will then come up with a plan for next year. “We aim to do the launch in March of next year and normally we tie it to either the first or second grand prix of the season. Once the team have their planning ready we will select which GP we will tie it with and then go full launch with the new one.” Sunday’s grand prix saw a full house of 60,000 pack into Yas Marina. But despite the sell-out, Al Ameri admits one challenge is attracting new ‘fans’. “I would be lying to say we don’t have any challenges, but fortunately we have a strong network around us,” he added. “One focus is to draft the feedback from newcomers and see what we can do to keep them coming back.”
