A motorist faces prosecution after ploughing into three stationary vehicles, killing one driver and badly injuring his passenger, police said. The man has been referred to Dubai Traffic Prosecution over the crash on Sunday at 2.45pm. As 7DAYS reported yesterday, MBC entertainment anchor Shahad Ballan, 27, was severely injured and her driver died in the incident. It took place on Sheikh Zayed Road in Jebel Ali as she travelled to Abu Dhabi from Media City. “A speeding vehicle came from behind and crashed into the car, causing the death of the driver and serious injuries to the woman,” Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui said. He said the driver is suspected of not paying attention to the road. Ballan’s vehicle was involved in a minor collision with two other cars and all three were stationary when they were hit. The Syrian national had just finished recording her first episode of the popular ET showbiz programme. MBC said she is in a stable condition. Her driver was one of four people killed in road accidents in recent days, police said last night. Another driver was killed when a truck crashed his Hyundai, which was stopped on the hard shoulder, at 12.20pm on Monday on Emirates Road. Al Mazroui said: “The driver of the car was killed, the truck driver suffered minor injuries.” Another two have been killed and two others injured in accidents in the past three days. Details of the crash emerged after police said new hard shoulder cameras have caught an average of 90 people per day since March. In many cases drivers were using the lanes to avoid jams and were travelling at high speed. Al Mazroui said: “Please follow speed limits, don’t drive above them and be prepared for surprises on the roads. Make sure to take safety procedures and steer clear of vehicles if they are stationary after an accident.” ali.shouk@7days.ae
