Eradicating polio in Pakistan, rebuilding Gaza and supporting Yemen are among the life-changing humanitarian projects the UAE has supported in recent years, a new report has said. The Ministry of International Cooperation and Development said that the UAE has donated charity worth Dhs173 billion in 178 countries over the past 44 years. The UAE was named the world’s most generous country for delivering foreign aid for the year 2013-2014. Among the top causes supported by the UAE was an initiative launched by HH President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, through which 86 million polio vaccines were administered to children in 53 different provinces of Pakistan. Furthermore, the UAE has supported 1.5 million refugees in Syria with aid worth Dhs2.14 billion to date through the food, health, housing and security sector. Among other Arab countries, the UAE has been Yemen’s top donor for humanitarian aid worth, Dhs6.65 billion. And in Palestine, the UAE continues to provide assistance.
