I can’t understand the recent uproar over the letter about maids wearing uniforms. The fact is, being a maid is a job. I think it’s fair to say that most people have to wear a uniform or dress to a certain standard for most kinds of employment, whether you work in a bank, a shop or anywhere else. Secondly, a uniform can serve a practical purpose and stop regular clothes being soiled or damaged. I think the key concern should be: are the maids being treated well and are they happy? I think wearing a uniform is surely the last of their worries when they are miles away from friends and family. Let’s focus on how we treat people overall. Louise, UAE
