A gyrocopter plunged into the water off Jumeirah Beach Residence during a FAI World Air Games Dubai event, organisers have said. The accident took place about 2.30pm yesterday, with the craft, similar to the one pictured, landing in the water near Skydive Dubai. The pilot was rescued and taken to hospital. A statement from organisers read: “The pilot who is part of this event may have sustained injuries, the extent of which are presently unknown.” It continued: “For unknown reasons the gyrocopter fell into the water at Skydive Dubai Palm Dropzone. We are taking steps to inform the family concerned. “We do not yet know what caused that accident, but an investigation has started to determine the causes and to prevent such a thing from happening again. This is being undertaken by the event organisers, together with the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and the Dubai Police. “We intend to make a further statement soon.” rory@7days.ae
