The Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Centre (HHC) has announced the opening of registration for the second Camel Journey, which takes place from January 20 until February 1, 2016. Led by Yemeni voyager Ahmed Al Qassimi, this year’s event will take in several emirates and cover a distance of approximately 500km through the UAE desert. The convoy will comprise a group of 15 people from different nationalities, who will be selected following a comprehensive screening programme. Here are a few pictures from the last journey: “The Camel Journey is yet another unique initiative from HHC that aims to revive the intangible cultural heritage of the UAE and preserve and promote our Emirati identity,” said Ibrahim Abdul Rahim, Director of Events at HHC. “People of all nationalities are welcome to take part in this unique voyage of discovery.” Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 45 and weigh less than 90kg, Rahim added. All candidates will also be required to undergo a medical check-up. The 15 selected individuals will be trained to care for their camels as well as how to read and interpret ancient maps using traditional navigational techniques. The entire journey will be documented for cultural preservation purposes. news@7days.ae
