UAE real estate developer Damac Properties continues to remain silent about its move to strip Donald Trump’s images off billboards advertising the firm’s multi-billion-dollar Akoya project in Dubai after the US presidential hopeful’s controversial comments about banning Muslims from entering his country. Damac also ripped out the gold ‘Trump International Golf Club’ lettering inscribed on the stone wall at the entrance to the golf course and luxury villa development in Dubailand – but it was later put back. While Damac declined a 7DAYS request for comment, the Trump Organisation said in a statement to The Associated Press: “The exterior signage at Trump International Golf Club, Dubai was temporarily removed on Tuesday for a short period of time, however, as of Thursday night, the signage is back up and intact.” Last week 7DAYS reported that hoardings that previously carried photos of the businessman advertising Damac’s Trump-branded golf course and luxury villas stood bare on Umm Suqiem Road. When 7DAYS visited the site on Sunday, it found the blank board has been replaced by an extension of the advertisement for Damac’s Paramount Hotels and Resorts to marketing Damac’s Hollywood-themed villas by Paramount. Meanwhile, Damac’s webpage dedicated to the Trump PRVT gated community, located within the 42 million sqft Akoya by Damac master plan, appears to have been disabled. Damac Properties did not respond to repeated requests for comment. Last week, Niall McLoughlin, senior vice president at Damac, said the agreement was with the Trump Organisation and they would not comment on Trump’s “personal or political agenda”. It is believed that Trump has also put money into Damac’s project. 7DAYS this week reported that Dubai-based Landmark Group’s retail brand Lifestyle decided to pull Trump Home-branded products off its shelves in response to the Republican tycoon-turned-politician’s inflammatory tirade. Trump called for a “complete and total shutdown” on Muslims entering the US. He is currently leading the race for the Republican nomination to be the next president of the US. megha@7days.ae
