I have been in Dubai now for more than 13 years, but have always felt it futile to address others poor driving in print. However, I now feel compelled to write. The examples of suicidal driving are becoming pre-2004 levels in their consistency and I’d like to share a couple of examples. Yesterday at approx 14:00 in JVT I was driving from my house and just before I reached a junction to turn left a woman on her phone in a White BMW X5 shot across at more than 60KPH from the right without braking or even looking. Had I been a few seconds earlier she WOULD have killed me, no doubt. The second example was of a man hunched in his White Toyota merging into my lane with no indication almost crashing into me and then veering into the main drag again still hunched in his seat looking in the wrong direction on his phone. If Dubai police ever read any of these letters I must ask that you reconsider the fines imposed if caught on phones such as immediate confiscation of the violator’s car and a Dhs10,000 fine. BTW my car has a track camera on the front which was on ref the BMW so my letter will not be just a shout into the dark. Mr Ricketts, Dubai
