A farmer’s son ran over a group of workers in his car – crushing one to death – after one of them failed to bring his father a glass of milk quick enough, a court has heard. A Pakistani employee on Monday gave evidence at the murder trial of the Emirati son, who is in his late twenties, at Abu Dhabi Criminal Court. Prosecutors said the man intentionally hit the worker with his car after an argument at his father’s farm and villa complex, which is outside Abu Dhabi city, in October. Police and paramedics were called to the scene and took the victim to hospital but he died on the way. The Pakistani co-worker told the court that he, the victim and another worker were erecting a tent in the compound. He said the defendant came over and ordered the victim to go down to the farm and get some milk for his father. “And when the victim delayed to go to the farm, our employer’s son became annoyed and started arguing with him,” said the eyewitness. “The man also tried to hit our friend with a wooden stick on the head, but the victim grabbed his hand.” The worker said the defendant then got into his car, which he had parked nearby, area and drove towards the three of them at speed. He said: “The man knocked down our friend and ran over him before he fled the scene.” He added that he and the other worker managed to jump away and escaped unhurt. The worker said they returned after the son had fled and found their friend in a bad way. He said: “I was so scared. And when we checked our friend he was motionless and blood was coming out of his nose and mouth.” The worker said they raised the alarm but their friend did not make it to hospital. The son denied intentionally running over the worker when he appeared in court on Monday. The trial was adjourned until February 5 so his lawyer could present his defence case. ismail@7days.ae
