A fond farewell to rock rebel Lemmy

This content was originally posted in 7DAYS UAE website at: A fond farewell to rock rebel Lemmy Rock music and planet Earth just lost one of their great spirits, after larger than life Motorhead frontman Lemmy sadly passed away. From the mid 1970s right through to the current day, on 22 studio albums and countless days on the road, Motorhead always sounded the same, regardless of trends. And that was down to two things. Lemmy’s trademark vocals (singing would be pushing it) and his quite unique bass playing style. It’s evident on the 1980 classic Ace of Spades, arguably the greatest ever rock single, as well as tracks such as Built For Speed, Bomber and countless others. It was back in February 2009 that Lemmy talked to 7DAYS about all things Motorhead, just days before they headlined the Desert Rock festival. In his mid-60s then and battling diabetes, Lemmy dismissed any notion of slowing down in terms of work, although he was a bit more coy about his famed rock and roll lifestyle. He told me: “You need to feel you are doing something worthwhile, and if we are making people happy then that’s ok. It’s keeping me happy too, What’s retirement got that’s better than what I’m doing now?” Cancer took Lemmy aged 70, just days before the start of a scheduled UK and European tour. Retirement was never on the cards. RIP Lemmy. chris.fraser@7days.ae Read the original story at: A fond farewell to rock rebel Lemmy
