Fans at this year’s Mubadala World Tennis Championship will be able to get even closer to their tennis heroes thanks to the expanded village at Zayed Sports City. Getting under way on December 31, the first day’s play will see Pat Cash host a Kid’s Day from 1pm where youngsters can pose questions to Canadian ace Milos Ranoic. Then from 2.30pm till 3pm, 14-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal and world No. 4 Stanislas Wawrinka will be on hand to sign autographs. There will also be prizes up for grabs for young tennis lovers. The expanded Tennis Village sees the return of the crowd-favourite Rado speed serve, where fans are able to clock their own skills against those of their tennis heroes. Meanwhile the updated and refurbished hospitality area will sport new booth-style seating, food and beverage menu’s and upgraded access to daily player Q&A sessions. The village will be open from 12pm every day and also features a huge screen, which will show all of the matches so that you don’t miss a minute of the action. The first day of action will see Raonic take on big-serving South African Kevin Anderson, while French favourite Joe Wilfried-Tsonga comes up against the always energetic David Ferrer. On January 1 the big names will enter the tournament with Wawrinka and Nadal both in action as they attempt to secure a spot in the final. The action will then conclude on January 2nd with a third/fourth play-off before the final which will get underway at 7pm. The eventual winner will this year walk away with $250,000. Now in it’s eight year, the tournament hopes to build on its legacy of boosting interest in tennis across the UAE and will this year feature a championship for the best players in the country.
