A man has been jailed for assaulting a woman by burning her with a hot shisha coal. Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced the unemployed Emirati, aged 37, to three months and fined him Dhs2,000 for drinking alcohol. But he was cleared of trying to rape the Kyrgyzstani tourist during the incident on January 18. A judge was told the woman met a male friend, also a Kyrgyzstani, at a hotel and got talking to the accused. He invited the pair to his home in Muraqabbat for a drink. The woman testified that her friend left his house at 2am and she stayed. She said it was then that the Emirati grabbed her and locked the door. She said: “He was drunk and slapped me before forcing me to drink alcohol.” She added: “He told me that I will be his wife for the week. Afterwards he said he would kill me and hide my body.” During the assault he removed her top and pressed a hot shisha coal against her stomach, she said. He also threw a bottle of alcohol at her. The accused eventually fell sleep. The woman said she found her phone and called Dubai Police, who arrived at the locked house, broke the door down and arrested the man. ali.shouk@7days.ae
