It is interesting to read about Abu Dhabi’s plans to encourage children to read (‘School reading lessons’, 7DAYS, January 10). However, it got me wondering whether we still need to put such an emphasis on reading and writing given the way technology is going. In the future will we read and write or will we just push buttons to communicate our ideas and to get what we want. Perhaps, it is time to ditch the 3Rs and just focus on science, technology…etc. The human race is evolving so perhaps education needs to as well.
