Dubai Court of First Instance was told the Egyptian accountant, 30, returned to the Al Qusais apartment of his friend, a 24-year-old Egyptian woman, after they had been out drinking. He initially settled down on the sofa at about 3am and his friend went to her room to sleep in the early hours of May 22, 2015. But prosecutors told the court that the Egyptian woman woke early that morning to hear shouting from her Tunisian flatmate’s bedroom. She testified: “At 7am, I heard the victim yelling and I jumped from my bed. I went out to the living room and saw the defendant sitting on a chair while my flatmate was behind her door shaking and yelling. She said that he entered her room and took off her underwear while she was sleeping.” The 29-year-old Tunisian, who works in sales, said that earlier that night she had been told that her flatmate’s friend was staying and she went back to sleep. She said: “I then woke up to find him taking off my clothes and standing beside the bed. I hit him with an ashtray and yelled for help.” She called Dubai Police who arrived and arrested the Egyptian man. The court was told that he was still drunk. He was charged with molestation, trespassing in the woman’s bedroom and consuming alcohol illegally. He was sentenced to three months in jail to be followed by deportation and a Dhs1,000 fine.
