Suggestion to each daily traffic headache in Dubai

This content was originally posted in 7DAYS UAE website at: Suggestion to each daily traffic headache in Dubai In the three years I have lived in Dubai I have seen the level of traffic steadily increase over that time. There are many reasons why this is the case, chiefly there are simply vastly more cars on the road. I think the authorities are moving in the right direction trying to tackle the growing gridlock but there are some very simple measures that seem to be overlooked. My journey to and from the office involves two types of major traffic headaches that could be nullified quite easily: 1. The infamous exit 44 on SMBZ road to Al Ain road – morning after morning there are hundreds of vehicles lined up (with multiple people cutting up and down this line). For such a major exit to be a single lane with no slip road means there will always be traffic backed up creating a dangerous tailback on a major highway. Making the two right-hand lanes a slip road into this exit would make this a much safer and less congested exit. This is the same story on Al Ain road on the Dubai Mall exit. 2. Traffic lights on Financial Centre Road – in recent weeks the traffic on this road has got really bad. The reason appears to be because they have changed the lights sequence meaning they’re on green for a lot less time – so whilst the lights are green to an empty SMR Boulevard the traffic on FCR is backed up all the way to Al Khail road. Answer – more time on green for the busier FCR. I know there are many other areas across the emirate that have similar problems – all of which can be eased with the likes of smart traffic lights and some simple re engineering of the road layout.
