Two footballers convicted of posting an offensive video online in which they insulted the UAE national coach have had their three-month jail terms suspended on appeal. The 29-year-old Emirati was filmed semi-naked by the friend making indecent gestures and insulting Mahdi Ali for substituting him in a match. He also spits as he speaks and gestures towards his trousers. RELATED: Player jailed for UAE football coach video rant Abu Dhabi Misdemeanour Court had earlier found the two men guilty and sentenced them to three months in jail for using telecommunications services to offend Ali and breach public decency. Both footballers challenged their convictions. The appeal court upheld the conviction ruling but suspended the sentence, meaning they will not go to jail. The lawyer of one of the players, Mohammed Al Marzooqi, had earlier urged the judge that there was no way to link his client to the crime because he neither authorised the filming of the video nor did he take part in its publication. ismail@7days.ae
