Abu Dhabi Criminal Court heard after giving birth at home – a hospital would have reported an unmarried woman – the Indonesian handed a plastic bag containing the baby girl to an Indian friend, who disposed of it. Prosecutors said the accused, a widow, had become pregnant during a relationship with a Pakistani man. The disposal was an apparent attempt to avoid being caught and charged with having an illegal affair. The Indian friend said he wanted to help the woman with her pregnancy. But the accused denied prosecutors’ claims and said she asked her friend to take the baby to the hospital. Her friend contradicted that and told chief justice Idris bin Mansour: “She told me to help her throw the plastic bag in the garbage bin.” Municipality workers found the baby, who recovered in hospital. The pair were traced from their fingerprints on the bag. The woman is charged with adultery and attempted murder and her friend with attempted murder.
