A son saw his mother beating and kicking a housemaid shortly before her body was found in their garden, court has heard. The Emirati woman is on trial at Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court accused of beating the Bangladeshi woman to death. Prosecutors said the maid was kicked in the stomach and violently struck with a heavy tool in various parts of the body before she died. A forensic report showed the maid, who was in her late 20s, had bruises on the body and died of a severe haemorrhage in her liver. The alleged murder took place on August 10 in the Al Dhaid area of RAK. Prosecutors presented evidence given during an interview with her children. One her teenage boys testified: “I had just woken up in the morning when I heard my mother shouting at the maid because she didn’t do the housework. I then saw her beating up the maid and kicking her. The maid then fell on the ground in the garden at the back of the house.” The boy added that, as they had breakfast, his mother kept going out to check on the maid, thinking she was pretending as she lay motionless on the ground. But she later realised the woman wasn’t breathing and the family called an ambulance. The woman’s daughter, who was inside the house, said she heard her mother screaming at the maid for not doing housework, though she said she did not witness the attack. The woman was questioned when the emergency services arrived and taken into custody. When questioned she claimed she had found the maid lying motionless and had not attacked her. “She informed her husband and children that she found the woman lying motionless in the garden,” said a prosecutor. In court, the Emirati woman denied attacking the maid and causing her death. Prosecutors said the maid’s life could have been saved had her employer called an ambulance immediately. The trial was adjourned until December 12. ismail@7days.ae
