Dubai Airports has issued an advisory for passengers planning to fly this weekend, advising them to allow three hours to check in and get through passport control. Between Thursday and Sunday, Dubai International airport is expected welcome one million passengers, making it one of the busiest periods in the airport’s history. Travel tips issued by Dubai Airports include arriving early at the airport, allocating a minimum of three hours for check-in and passport control, taking into consideration daily rush hours and available routes in calculating commuting time to the airport, and allowing extra time for your journey. It also recommends checking with the airline in advance for information on baggage allowances, and to pack liquids, aerosols and gels (LAGs) in check-in baggage. If carrying LAGs in hand baggage, ensure they are in a clear re-sealable plastic bag, with each item not being more than 100ml. The total content of all items should be no more than one litre. The airport reminded passengers to put anything with metal components, watches, jewellery, mobile phones, coins, belts etc., into hand luggage well before arriving at the X-ray machine to save time at the security screening. It added that it is important to check which airport and terminal you are departing from before leaving home. To beat queues, check-in online if possible or use the self-service check-in kiosks in the departures hall. The advisory concluded by reminding all passengers that using an e-Gate card can help to avoid queuing at passport control, both while arriving and on departure. An e-Gate Card can be obtained from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigner Affairs for a fee. GDRFA have an e-Gate office in the departure areas of all terminals. news@7days.ae
