Authorities have urged people venturing onto beaches during the National Day holidays to be careful after a worker drowned in the sea in Ras Al Khaimah. RAK Police said the Filipino man, who was in his 20s, died off the beach in Jazeera Al Hamra on Monday afternoon as he was swimming with a friend in rough seas. Police rescuers managed to save one of the men but the other was swept away by high waves. His body was recovered on Tuesday morning. “People should stay away from the sea or be very cautious while venturing onto beaches during the present weather conditions,” said Brigadier Abdullah Khamis Al Hadidi, head of the police operations department at RAK Police. The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology said yesterday that strong winds could result in dust today and Friday and will lead to very rough conditions in the Arabian Gulf. Motorists have also been asked to be cautious due to poor visibility as fog is expected in the coming days and over the weekend. ismail@7days.ae
