Five tunes to set the holiday mood

This content was originally posted in 7DAYS UAE website at: Five tunes to set the holiday mood Music is such an easy way to get us in the Christmas spirit. Here are five Christmas crackers that are essential on any playlist East 17 – Stay Another Day Remember the bells, the bling, the white furry collars and the gloves? Even if you don’t recall the video, you’ve got to love this 1994 pop classic. It’s not often we’d admit to being fans of this 90s boy band, but it’s allowed at Christmas. One of the members managed to run himself over in a bizarre accident. Happy Christmas, Brian Harvey!   Wham – Last Christmas George Michael may have gone on to bigger and better things but this moment from 1984, when he and Andrew Ridgeley were full-on teen heart-throbs, is festive gold. Heartache and Christmas jumpers, the perfect combination.       Bing Crosby – White Christmas ‘I’m dreaming of a white Christmas’… dum deed um dee dee dee dee dee’. Does anybody know the second line? No matter, because Bing takes care of that with a wonderful performance of this Irving Berlin standard which has been part of our lives since the early 1940s – when we were all still living in black and white.     The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl – Fairytale of New York Insults, shattered dreams and the boys of the NY PD choir combine for a truly magical music moment from 1987. Shane MacGowan’s dodgy vocals are better than ever when up against, and duetting with, the late, great Kirsty MacColl.       John Lennon and Yoko Ono – Happy Xmas (War is Over) A protest song against the Vietnam War is perhaps a strange choice for festive cheer, but this beautiful track from 1971 is guaranteed to bring a tear to the eye. Not just because of the wonderful and naïve sentiment – ‘war is over, if you want it’ – but bizarrely because of Yoko Ono’s weak voice. Read the original story at: Five tunes to set the holiday mood
