Try to sit in one of the cafes or restaurant or even for a walk in the evening alongside Sheikh Zayed Road and it’s impossible. They even enter inside while you are dining to sell some stuff. These hawkers normally appear at night while the women offering massages start in the morning sitting outside restaurants and at the back of the bus station pretending to be busy on their cell phones, and then stopping offering men for their service. Their numbers multiply as the darkness descends, with more men selling their trade without discretion. Do these hawkers and ‘massaeurs’ have a special permit from the authority to offer their trade in this manner? It would be nice to have Sheikh Zayed Road a lively, buzzling place, almost iconic, as it is please, without this kind of undesirable business.
