A man accused of molesting a secretary claimed he was trying to pick her up in an attempt to guess her weight. The Jordanian, aged 39, offered the defence as he went on trial at Dubai Court of First Instance. Judge Mohammed Jamal was told the suspect visited the firm in Rashidiya on October 12, 2015 to deliver a gift to the Filipina’s boss. He asked the 24-year-old secretary where her manager was and she said he was out of the office. “It was 7pm when he asked me for a glass of water and then followed me to the kitchen” she testified. She said the accused then touched her breasts and abdomen and grabbed her by the waist. She continued: “I yelled for help and he was terrified and ran out. He came back after a few minutes and apologised and asked me not to inform my manager of what happened.” She called police and an Emirati officer, aged 29, said the man admitted the woman made him feel “excited”. But when questioned in court, the suspect said he did not touch her in a sexual sense but was attempting to weigh her. He also presented a document that he said was a letter from the victim agreeing that the case should be dropped. Judge Jamal adjourned the case to consider the verdict. ali.shouk@7days.ae
