A wide range of activities have been lined up across the nation for the holiday period. Here’s a guide of what’s happening where in the UAE: Yas Marina Circuit Abu Dhabi Aerial acrobats, a high-speed zip line, camel rides and falconry shows, live musical performances, Arabic calligraphy and much more are on the agenda for the ‘National Day Colours’ celebration on December 2. The drama will be provided by aerial acrobats performing a circus-style show while suspended from helium balloons. Thrill-seekers can head to the Fly Yas Zip Line, which reaches speeds of 65kph. There will also be a daytime fireworks show. Visitors are encouraged to share moments from the day on Instagram and Twitter with the hashtags #LetYourColoursFly and #MyUAE to win prizes. Heritage focus Arabian Nights Village in Abu Dhabi’s Al Khatim desert ­will have a heritage focus. From November 30 to December 5, the village – where accommodation reflects the nation’s heritage with a watch tower, Œhomes made from dried palm fronds, mud clay or goat’s hair tents – will feature a traditional Œsouk. On National Day itself, the village will feature a live cooking station where chefs will prepare Emirati sweets and food, guests will be able to have souvenir photos taken wearing national costume and then enjoy an evening bonfire set against the magnificent backdrop of the Al Khatim dunes. Concerts and fireworks in Abu Dhai A series of National Day concerts featuring some of the most prominent Emirati, Arab and Arabian Gulf singers will run for three nights from December 1 and will take place at the Zayed Heritage Festival in Al Wathba, Abu Dhabi, and on December 2 and 3 at the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium, on December 2 at Hili Fun City in Al Ain and on December 2 and 3 in the Western Region at Dalma Island, Al Sila’a and Madinat Zayed. All concerts start at 9pm and go on until midnight. A series of fireworks displays will light up the skies from December 1 to 3 at the Zayed Heritage Festival in Al Wathba Abu Dhabi, at the Corniche Abu Dhabi and from December 2 to 3 at the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium, Khor Al Maqta’a-Abu Dhabi and in the Western Region at Dalma Island, Al Sila’a and Madinat Zayed. The firework shows will be held at these locations from 9pm to 9:20pm. UAE’s Armed Forces will perform stunning aerial displays – in conjunction with naval and ground displays – at Abu Dhabi Corniche on December 1. On show from 3pm to 6pm, the displays by the Al Fursan Aerobatics team will exhibit the prowess of the nation’s military, underscoring its ability to defend the country. Free Dubai sightseeing City Sightseeing Dubai is giving all UAE residents complimentary tours on its hop-on hop-off tour buses on December 2. Residents can collect a ticket by presenting a valid Emirates ID Card at the City Sightseeing kiosk in Deira City Centre on December 2. The tickets are valid for the same day and can be used from 9am to 8pm when the tours run. The fireworks show will begin at 9pm on Wednesday, December 2. Also, between 5pm and 7pm from Wednesday, December 2 to Saturday, December 5, there will be LED dance performances and traditional cultural demonstrations by Al Ayallah and Liwa dancers. Boat parade There will be UAE National Day Boat Parade through the Marina. Yachts decorated with UAE symbols and decorations will sail in a convoy down the length of one of Dubai Marina.
