I agree with the letter ‘Why bring dogs here when they have nowhere to walk’, 7DAYS Dec 29. I’m often thinking the same when I see dogs like German Shepherd or collie or huskey or other long-haired dogs here in Dubai: where they will go, what they will do during the hot 6-7 months of the year? Are they forced to stay in comfortable luxury “jail” inside luxury villas? One of the biggest problems is that dogs are walked by maids/houseboys… and you never see (or very rarely see) dogs walked by the owners, because dog owners don’t like to stay out when it’s hot! For the same reason you can see dog poo everywhere, because staff are too busy talking on the phone or talking with friends while walking pets and they have no time to clean after dogs: their plastic bags are always empty! Instead of looking at nice panorama we are forced to walk looking at the footpath to avoid dog poo! And tell me why pet owners keep their dogs “free” – even if this is forbidden – because “my dog is very good, is very quiet, is well educated….” And they don’t care if people die of fear when they run after them… or they bark continuously or growl at them. And they are coming with dogs on the beaches even if this is forbidden. I love dogs, I had dogs in my country, but they should be banned because of lack of attention and carelessness by owners.
