Dognappers stole three German shepherds from a Dubai pet shop, a court heard. Prosecutors said the men struck at Petzone in Al Barsha and also took dog food and Dhs2,000 in cash. Dubai Court of First Instance heard the dogs are worth nearly Dhs10,000 each. The court heard the men broke in to the shop on October 22, 2015 by forcing the front door. The owner of the store, a 42-year-old Syrian man, received a call from Dubai Police asking him to come to the shop after the break-in was discovered. “The glass door was damaged and three German shepherd dogs were missing along with their food bags,” the owner said, according to court records. Dubai Police arrested a 26-year-old man from the Comoros Islands the next day and he allegedly confessed to stealing the dogs with an Emirati friend. Police said the dogs were kept at a home of a mutual female friend in Dubai Investments Park. Police officers were dispatched to the house and arrested the 28-year-old Emirati defendant and found the dogs. “They stole the cashier till too then stole Dhs2,000 from it,” a 34-year-old Emirati policeman said in official records. The Emirati defendant denies charges of breaking into the shop and stealing the dogs. However, the other defendant admitted the charges in court. The case has been adjourned to January. ali.shouk@7days.ae
