This content was originally posted in 7DAYS UAE website at: RTA outlines transport plan for New Year’s Eve in Dubai The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has revealed details of the transport plan for the New Year’s Eve celebrations, especially in and around the Burj Khalifa. According to Engineer Maitha bin Udai, CEO of Traffic & Roads Agency and Head of the Traffic Movement, there will be extra parking spaces and more feeder buses running around-the-clock until 1am on Saturday, January 2, 2016. As the Burj Khalifa Metro Station will be closed from 10pm on Thursday, December 31, passengers will have to use Financial Centre and Business Bay stations. The number of metro passengers on New Year’s Eve is expected to reach about 900,000, while the following day there could be about 480,000 people. Dedicated lanes will be provided for buses and taxis, and motorists are advised to avoid using the Financial Centre Street and the Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard after 8pm on New Year’s Eve. Al Asayel Street stretching from Oud Metha to Burj Khalifa would be closed, as it would be reserved for RTA buses offering free shuttles to the public from Al Wasl Parking yard to the pick-up and drop-off point at Al Abraj Street at Burj Khalifa. About 5,000 additional parking slots will be provided to support the existing 17,000 spaces. The additional slots include 1,500 at the World Trade Centre, 2,000 at Al Wasl Club, 500 at Al Jafliya (at the Residency & Foreigners Affairs Department) and 1,000 at Zabeel Park. There will also be a crossing point for the public at Sheikh Zayed Road near Burj Khalifa Metro Station. news@7days.ae   Read the original story at: RTA outlines transport plan for New Year’s Eve in Dubai
