Three students have admitted smoking hashish during a birthday party bash at a hotel, a court has heard. Dubai Court of First Instance was told that the trio, a Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indian, in their twenties, were smoking joints on September 9 at a hotel in Jumeirah Lakes Towers. Prosecutors said Dubai Police’s Anti-Narcotic Department had been tipped-off about the men. Police raided the hotel room, arrested the students but could not find any drugs on them. “We searched their hotel’s room and found stubs. They told me that they smoked drugs one day before the arrest as they were having a birthday party for the Indian suspect,” a 30-year-old Emirati policeman said in official records. The three students tested positive from a urine test. The defendants admitted the charge on Tuesday. Their sentence will be issued later this month. The minimum sentence is four years in jail to be followed by deportation. The three remain in custody. ali.shouk@7days.ae
