A nurse is on trial charged with scalding a patient with hot water, leaving her with serious burns, as she helped bathe the woman. The court of first instance in the Baniyas district of Abu Dhabi yesterday heard that the Asian woman, who worked at a clinic, accidentally used the hot water on the Emirati. A medical report issued by Al Rahba Hospital, where the patient was transferred, showed she suffered second-degree burns to her back, left breast and a foot. Prosecutors charged the nurse with negligence. “She was helping the weak patient wash parts of her body,” said a prosecutor. The nurse stressed that it was her colleague’s fault. She said: “At first, I checked the temperature of the water and realised it was hot. I had to adjust the nozzle to a position for normal bathing water.” She said her colleague hit the nozzle, switching the water back to the hot setting. She said she didn’t realise this when she started washing the patient. The trial was adjourned until January 27. news@7days.ae
