Ground operations firm Dnata said it handled 256,000 passengers at Dubai International and Dubai World Central, as families left for the festive break and international travellers passed through. This represents a 4 per cent increase in passenger traffic over the previous year. The busiest day at Dubai’s airports was also the single busiest day for Dnata in 2015 as it handled more than 296,000 pieces of luggage and serviced more than 570 flights. More than 9,000 Dnata staff were mobilised at both Dubai airports with 6,400 vehicles deployed on the airside, including baggage conveyor belts, passenger steps, pushback trucks and baggage cars. Nick Moore, Dnata’s Senior Vice President for Airline Services, said: “It took an incredible amount of coordination and teamwork to successfully handle the volume of passengers and air traffic in Dubai’s airports on this exceptionally busy day. “On average, a flight was taking off or landing every minute. Round-the-clock, our ground handling crews delivered a smooth turnaround service and a strong, safe, on-time performance.” At Dubai International alone, 136,000 passengers flew out to other destinations on Friday. This figure represents an average of 95 travellers departing the airport every minute during the 24 hours. On social media there appeared to be few complaints from passengers, with some saying that although it was very busy, there were a large number of staff on hand to help. One Dutch expat tweeted: “Dubai’s airport is super busy with families leaving for Xmas. Did not see much stress with the personnel.” Tens of thousands of expats are expected to fly home on holiday in the coming days, with many visitors flying in to the UAE for winter sun breaks. business@7days.ae Read the original story at: Dnata handles 250,000 passengers in one day at Dubai airports
