Reader support for Dubai family in need

This content was originally posted in 7DAYS UAE website at: Reader support for Dubai family in need Kind-hearted 7DAYS readers have offered financial support to a family of a new mum left with brain damage after giving birth. On Sunday, 7DAYS reported that Mina Jan’s husband, Saber Hamza Sayyed, was left with hospital bills of nearly Dhs200,000 after his wife went into a coma and remains paralysed in a Dubai hospital bed. She has not seen her baby boy, who was born premature in July. Jan was diagnosed with reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome and acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM), a rare autoimmune disease marked by a sudden inflammation of the brain and spinal cord. One Dubai mum, 42-year-old Pramila D’Souza, said that even though she “earns little”, she wanted to help somehow and is willing to give Dhs1,000. The Indian procurement officer in Dubai said: “I’m a mother and I can’t imagine what it would feel like to be in that position. It’s very sad. I can only pray for them and help them in any little way I can. I’m a middle-income resident here, I don’t earn a lot myself, but even giving them a few dirhams would count. It’s people like us who need to get together and give as much as we can.” A 23-year-old Indian trainee in Dubai, Shahzad Hameed Jamal, said he is hoping to raise between Dhs10,000 to Dhs15,000 for Sayyed’s family by asking his friends and family to donate. Jamal said he will also donate what he can out of his own pocket. He said: “I was talking to a few colleagues of mine and I think we can raise a decent amount. We’re going to ask our family and friends and try to raise as much as we can.” Another reader offered to donate a camera for the family to sell as he didn’t have any money. sarwat@7days.ae Read the original story at: Reader support for Dubai family in need
