Residents urged to have their say on sport in Dubai

This content was originally posted in 7DAYS UAE website at: Residents urged to have their say on sport in Dubai The Dubai Sports Council (DSC) wants residents to help improve the overall standard of sport in the emirate. At yesterday’s announcement of its new 2016-2021 strategy, it was revealed that the DSC will continue to attract big events to the emirate, but also raise the quality of facilities and events at a grassroot and community level. Under the term “Dubai Sports Pulse”, residents are invited to have their say. Saeed Hareb, secretary general of the DSC, spoke of the important role that residents can play in the new strategy. He had this message for Dubai residents: “What do you want from sport? What do you want for your children? You are living in Dubai. Ok, you want to do something for your family and for your kids, what should the Dubai Sports Council be concentrating on? “Go to the beach, see how many people are there. Go to Al Qudra, many people are cycling. We are concentrating on making facilities for them [the residents], that’s why I want their opinion.” Dubai may be famous for its international tournaments in tennis, golf and rugby sevens, but those were just a small percentage of the 444 events held in 2015. Because of this high amount of activity, Hareb says that quality must keep improving across the whole of the sports industry. He added: “Sport today is a major activity in Dubai. “What we saw last year proves how important sport is. “This year we are looking to do more – firstly the development of what we have and then to improve it. We have different games and many different companies [in sport]. “Sheikh Mohammed always says that everything should be standardised at five star, you cannot go lower than this. He always tries to achieve number one.” Residents will have the next two to three months to give their opinions and once this has all been collected the DSC’s strategic planning committee will use the information and get to work.
