Driver arrested for two-wheel stunt at Dubai petrol station

This content was originally posted in 7DAYS UAE website at: Driver arrested for two-wheel stunt at Dubai petrol station This is the moment a reckless motorist puts lives at risk as he performed a two-wheel drifting stunt around a petrol station forecourt in Dubai. Dubai Police, who have arrested the driver following the incident – which was captured on video at the ENOC station in Al Awir – said the stunt could have ended in disaster. The footage shows the Nissan Patrol narrowly avoiding petrol pumps and other vehicles as it careers around the forecourt. Colonel Saif Al Mazroui, head of the Dubai Police Traffic Department, said: “He was going round the petrol pumps, endangering his life and other people’s lives. “This act could have ended in disaster if he had hit a petrol pump.” The driver has been referred to public prosecution accused of endangering lives. His car has also been seized. And Dubai Police have warned they will “not go soft” on drivers who cause chaos on the roads. The arrest comes just a week after police seized a car that was involved in a similar YouTube video filmed in the desert of a motorist performing the same stunt, known as ‘hagwalah’. It features a man scaring a passenger, apparently the mother of a friend, by racing his Nissan Patrol on two wheels. That video was viewed more than four million times and appeared to have been shot with the help of a drone camera. Al Mazroui said: “It has not been long since that video began circulating on social media and now this happens. “We cannot go soft on people carrying out dangerous stunts on our roads and our patrols are chasing reckless drivers around the clock.” Police said the motorist involved in the petrol station stunt was a young man, but did not disclose his age or nationality. Al Mazroui said: “Despite the tightening of rules, the handing out of hefty fines and black points and increasing the period that vehicles are confiscated for, there is still a category of driver who insists on endangering people’s lives. “And there is still that large group of young people who are driving recklessly, despite awareness campaigns carried out around the year.” wafa.issa@7days.ae Read the original story at: Driver arrested for two-wheel stunt at Dubai petrol station
