He openly admits he wasn’t expecting the success of Animals, which he created when he was just 15 years old, as a club record. He tells 7DAYS when asked about the success of the track, “I still actually don’t know. I made this track as a club-record and for some reason it got picked up by the radio, then it charted and everything went completely insane!” Straight after playing the Sunburn Music Festival in Goa, India, he’ll be playing Meyden for New Year’s Eve. He’s played across the globe, and couldn’t really choose his favourite gig. He says, “Ah that’s difficult there have been so many! I must say performing in front of Duomo di Milano during this year’s MTV EMA’s was pretty awesome. It’s such a sick location.” Having worked with huge international names including Tiesto, (who’s coming to Dubai in February), and Usher, Garrix is down to earth about the experience – saying he learnt from all the acts he has collaborated with. “They’re such great artists and got so much experience. It’s an honour to get to work with them.” And when asked who might be on the cards for Garrix to work with in 2016? “There are so many great artists I would like to work with. Lana Del Rey is definitely ranked high on that list.” Martin Garrix will play New Year’s Eve at Meydan. Doors open 6pm.
